  1. The Laws of the Media have been shaped by 
  2. studying the effects of media, so there is always a 
  3. hidden ground  upon which these effects stand, 
  4. and against which they bounce. That is, the law 
  5. of a medium is a figure interplaying with a ground. 
  6. As with a wheel and an axle, there must be an 
  7. interval between the two in order for the play to 
  8. exist.
